that he lavished on us in all wisdom and insight.

  • Verse 3 mentioned "every spiritual blessing" in the heavenly realms in Christ: The scope
  • Verse 6 says He freely bestowed his grace on us: The price
  • Verse 8 is saying lavished the riches of his grace on us: The size

The scope (the area)

When God said "every spiritual blessing," He meant every spiritual blessing.

That is why we are joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17); we have access to what He has access to because we are in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17).

The price (the cost)

With all these goodies, you might say that it is for the mature. But no. We do not qualify for it.

You might say it is for those who have proven themselves worthy. But no. It is a place of privilege. It's a free bestowal.

The size (the limit)

The first part explains what this blessing covers: everything. The next question is: what is required on our end? The answer is nothing. Now, the third question concerns volume.

Those questions are testing the limits.

  • The first asks if this is limited by things covered. No.
  • The second asks if this is about what I bring to the table. No.
  • And the third is: is there any limit to its size? If it covers everything and I pay nothing, is it like a freemium package where I still get something great, but I hit a rate limit, but not the best and the very height? The answer is emphatically no because of the word "lavished" in this verse.

God is communicating the limitlessness of His generosity, and this is not in a hypothetical sense but in a real sense of the divine deliverables to us because of Jesus Christ.

The method (all wisdom)

Wisdom is about overcoming problems/oppositions.

What are the oppositions to these realities? We do not need to look further than Genesis 3, where sin entered the world. This is the cause of the chasm between God (holy) and man (sinner), as Jesus said, between Abraham and the rich man.

Besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us, so that those who want to cross over from here to you cannot do so, and no one can cross from there to us.’ (Luke 16:26)

That, I believe, gives us an idea of the uncrossable-ness that was created between God and man because of sin, since God is holy.

The picture of the flaming sword that blocked the way to the tree of life (a blessing) depicts that reality (Genesis 3:24). So, how do you overcome that?

It takes some measure of wisdom, insight, and resources for any engineering group or building team to craft a bridge that spans from one side of a river or an ocean to the other. Imagine the kind of gulf between heaven (God) and earth (man), and what it would take to bridge them.

Jesus is the answer. He is the wisdom and the power of God.

But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. (1 Corinthians 1:21)

Jesus borrowed the language of Jacob's dream: a ladder reaching to heaven (Genesis 28:10-17), with angels ascending and descending.

He continued, “I tell all of you the solemn truth—you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” (John 1:51)

Jesus is the bridge between heaven and earth. Jesus is whatever is needed.

He is the reason you have a relationship with Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 1:30)

He is the multipurpose tool that can get the job done. And that is wisdom. It is not wisdom if the problem remains unsolved.

And to solve the problem of sin, Jesus was sacrificed. What was pain for Him became immeasurable blessings to us. His blood flowing is death to Him but life to us.

He was lavished with the wrath of God (Isaiah 53), and we are lavished with the riches of his grace. Judgment on Him was mercy to us. It's the great exchange. He got what we deserve, and we got what He deserved.

The message (all insight)

God's

Only God knows what is needed to achieve the full outflow of blessing on us. But we need to know about God lavishing His blessing on us. It was not arbitrary. It was reasonable.

He has the insight into how to get from point A to point B, and we can share in that knowledge.

Before we can communicate divine realities, whether from God to us or from us to others, they have to make sense. Salvation makes sense. The gospel is logical. A lot of it is spiritual insight, meaning you factor in spiritual details.

Everything makes sense. God knows exactly what He is doing. He knows you truly, and He has fully bestowed His blessing on you. There is no contradiction whatsoever.

Ours

There is nothing hidden from us.

That is why Jesus said that the least in the kingdom of God is greater than John the Baptist (Matthew 11:11).

That is why Jesus said the children should not be kept from Him, because the kingdom of God is theirs (Mark 10:14).

But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

The time of God hiding things is over.

There is no barrier between us and the best of God, and the very heights of God Himself.

Jesus told the disciples:

I no longer call you slaves because the slave does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends because I have revealed to you everything I heard from my Father. (John 15:15)

This friendship is not an achievement. It's not something you get after climbing some form of ladder. We are His friends because we share His knowledge, and that is a big deal.

We are not the same as Him; no one is the same as anyone. We are not God-like, but there is no daylight between us in the revelation of who He is, which is something that is birthed on the inside (Galatians 1:15-16).

Rejecting Money-For-Blessings Schemes in the Church
Rejecting Money-For-Blessings Schemes in the ChurchAre you tired of the spiritual pressure to “sow a seed” for divine favor? Have you been left disillusioned by doctrines that portray God as a cosmic merchant who must be paid before He will bless you? This book, Rejecting Money-For-Blessings Schemes in the Church, offers a critical and deeply scriptural examination of modern financial doctrines that have crept into the church. It meticulously dismantles the notion that giving is a transaction meant to control God or “activate” a miracle. In this essential work, you will: Reclaim the True Picture of God: Understand God as the generous Father who gives to all—even the unrighteous—and whose nature is to give freely, not to withhold until a price is paid. Discover Biblical Giving: Uncover the true foundation for Christian giving, which begins with acknowledging that “everything comes from you, and we have simply given back to you what is yours” (1 Chronicles 29:14). Expose Misinterpretation: Systematically refute the false application of biblical parables, such as the Sower, and historical accounts, like the widow of Zarephath, to money-for-blessing schemes. Embrace a Cheerful Heart: Be released from the compulsion and fear-based giving tactics and learn to give “just as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, because God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7). Reaffirm Christ’s Supremacy: Solidify your belief that “Christ who is your life” (Colossians 3:4), not material wealth, is the center of your devotion. This is a vital resource for anyone who has felt exploited, confused, or burdened by financial demands in a spiritual context. Return to the pure, unadulterated devotion to Christ, where the access to every good gift is secured by His blood, not your money. Reclaim the joy of true giving as an act of worship, not a down payment on a blessing.
